為了提升臺灣學生的英語學習體驗,華府臺頑青少年基金會(MGY)與FASCA華府分會於9月19日晚間舉辦了一場線上英語設計課程研討會。這堂課由專案老師劉麗英和普林斯頓中文學校老師張薇琪指導,讓學生有機會自行設計適合臺灣學生的英語教材。
本活動吸引了一群有興趣與臺灣學生進行交流的學員,在經驗豐富老師們的指導下,美國學員討論了英語語言教育各個方面的內容,包括詞彙練習、必備短句、應對機場和旅行安排等情境所需要的會話技能。
劉麗英表示,通過活動賦予學生積極參與塑造當小老師的角色,將加強臺灣和美國學生之間的聯繫,同時提供寶貴的學習機會,並讓學生發揮創造力,使英語學習更容易理解和有趣。
張薇琪則認為,美國學生和南投水里商工以及成城國小之間的這種合作,是雙方學生互相學習的絕佳機會。這不僅僅是關於教英語,更是促進跨文化理解和聯繫的好機會。
MGY與FASCA華府分會長期以來進行臺美交流等活動,以線上對話的方式,促進臺灣和美國學生之間的友誼和互相學習。

To enhance the English learning experience for students in Taiwan, the Metro Gathers Youth Foundation (MGY) and the FASCA Washington D.C. Chapter held an online English design course workshop on the evening of September 19. Guided by project instructor Li-Ying Liu and Princeton Chinese School teacher Vicky Chang, the session provided students with the opportunity to design English teaching materials tailored specifically for Taiwanese students.
The event attracted a group of participants interested in engaging with students in Taiwan. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, the American participants discussed various aspects of English language education, including vocabulary exercises, essential phrases, and conversational skills needed for scenarios such as airport navigation and travel arrangements.
Li-Ying Liu stated that by empowering students to take an active role as "junior teachers," the activity strengthens the connection between students in Taiwan and the U.S. It provides valuable learning opportunities and allows students to exercise their creativity, making English learning more accessible and fun.
Vicky Chang noted that this collaboration between American students and Taiwan's Nantou Shueili Vocational High School and Cheng-Cheng Elementary School is an excellent opportunity for students from both sides to learn from one another. It is not just about teaching English, but also about fostering cross-cultural understanding and connections.
MGY and the FASCA DC Chapter have long been committed to Taiwan-U.S. exchange activities, using online dialogues to promote friendship and mutual learning between students in both regions.
